6 Steps on how to polish stainless steel using olive oil

polishing stainless steelStainless steel tends to look dull with time or develop some water marks. You can easily bring it back to its original sheen by performing quick surface polishing using home remedies such as flour or olive oil. If your stainless steel is scratched you can polish it away with a power buffer and a professional stainless steel polish.

Steps to Polish Stainless Steel

#1: Clean your stainless steel piece
Irrespective of the kind of method you will use to polish, your stainless steel should be cleaned. Cookware made of steel can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Wipe the piece down using a solution of dish detergent and warm water. Remove the soapy residue using clean water.

#2: Dry the item
After washing and rinsing, dry it before polishing. You can use a soft cloth or allow it to dry on air.

#3: Apply Olive oil
Pour olive oil onto a clean cloth; take a dot or two if you are polishing small items like pans but you may use a little more for larger surfaces.

#4: Spread the oil around
Before you worry about intense buffing, ensure that the whole surface has a coating of olive oil. Wipe the piece side by side until you see light sheen on the entire surface.

#5: Buff the oil in
You will require considerably pressure in order to work the oil into the small grooves in the surface of the stainless steel. Use oil-soaked side of the cloth and apply strong and steady pressure on the surface of the steel using small circular motions. Continue buffing until you get notable change in texture across the whole surface. The surface should feel smooth when you finish.

#6: Buff out excess oil
If you leave extra oil on the surface of the stainless steel, it will make it dull instead of polishing. Buff out the oil by using clean rag or clean paper towel. Buff the surface with steady and firm pressure in a circular motion until the glossy oil is gone.

You can also polish your stainless steel using flour or professional polish with different procedures.
